Enclosure preview:

Enclosure is a new upcoming record partly written and entirely recorded during lockdown. The title, chosen for the implication of restriction as well as protection and nurturing, considers contradictory ideas of presence and absence, contraint and independence. Some of the music is only subtly affected, other pieces and recordings only exist in this format of the time and place they were made.

Larry Goves - Distant airports
Three repeating fragmented melodies for four instruments sit over a long, warm drone.

Claudia Sessa (arr. Larry Goves) - Occhi io Vissi di Voi (1)

In this second arrangement of Claudia Sessa’s song, five contrapuntal saxphone lines entangle in a contemporary take on a mensuration canon.

Larry Goves - Music inspired by Siouxsie and the Banshees’ Suburban relapse played with little regard for coordination or tuning.

Lockdown noise.

Larry Goves - Borneo rivers

Music made from the shapes of the rivers of Southern Borneo.

Matthew Sergeant - Matters of Matter #4 A bowed string instrument is played with a found branch, twig, or similar...

This is part of a Sergeant’s substantial sequence of pieces exploring material agency. The human performer uses a found bow - a branch or twig - and the shape and irregularites of this inform the sound of open string. The effect is an intense AMSR-like experience.

Larry Goves - Music for melody instruments, objects, and electronic sounds

A repeating melody, percussive objects sounds, and electronic drones shift from left to right in canon.

Sarah Hennies - Growing Block

A mass of insturments and objects shift in 30-second blocks providing 14 windows into fantastical sonic worlds.

Claudia Sessa (arr. Larry Goves) - Occhi io Vissi di Voi (2)
In this arrangement of Claudia Sessa’s extraordinary 1613 short song , the melody is freely performed on alto saxophone then artifically slowed down. The real time alto flute and cello are notated around this and repeat a pattern of five beats playing and two beats silence. In the end both layers are caught between the natural and unnatural, the organic and severe.

Amber Priestley - With wholesome hunger plenty

A studio version of Priestley’s Abroad to beg your bacon: an invitation to filter a renaissanse melody through a anarchic process of tuttis, solos, interuptions, and interactions.
“This is not game, this is serious.
They are playing a game. They are playing at not playing a game.”
- The Situation is Hopeless, but not Serious: The Pursuit of Unhappines
(Paul Watzlawick)

Larry Goves - Nehemiah 2

Distorted beyond recognition, Nehemiah ‘Skip’ James is heard accross the (probably) hundred years since he wrote his first song alongside a new, slowed down, instrumental blues.
